From birth through early adulthood, bones, joints and muscles go through many changes. Because growth and development is happening at such a fast pace, injuries, diseases and conditions affecting a child's musculoskeletal system can be challenging to treat. The team at Blank Children's Orthopaedics, a hospital outpatient department of UnityPoint Health – Des Moines – Iowa Methodist Medical Center, together with Shriners Children's Twin Cities, is expertly trained to care for children and adolescents who experience musculoskeletal injuries, diseases and conditions.

Our multi-disciplinary team includes our orthopaedic surgeons, pediatric sub-specialists, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, child life specialists and surgery professionals. We work closely with the family and other care providers to achieve long-term improvement in the child's ability and function.

Should your child's treatment include surgery, we offer a dedicated pediatric surgery center at Blank Children's/Iowa Methodist Medical Center. The surgery center offers a child-friendly waiting and pre-operative area where you can remain with your child until he/she is taken to surgery, and a Child Life specialist to help children understand, at their level, what will happen in surgery.
