Visitor Policies and Guidelines
Visiting Hours: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- All patients, including COVID positive, are allowed two (2) visitors at a time.
- One (1) visitor, age 16 or older, may stay in the patient’s room overnight to provide additional support and promote patient healing.
- Maternity Services are allowed two (2) visitors plus one (1) designated birthing coach/doula during the birthing process.
- Outpatient Services, including emergency department patients, are allowed two (2) visitors at a time.
- For pre-procedure patients, visitors can arrive with the patient at their arrival time when it's earlier than 7 a.m.
- Minors under the age of 16 are allowed to visit if they are supervised by an adult who is not the patient. In the NICU, minors under the age of 16 must be a sibling and accompanied by an adult.
- Visitors should stay home if they do not feel well.
Exceptions may be made for end-of-life or other extenuating circumstances on a case-by-case basis by nursing unit leadership. Visitors will be asked to leave if they are not willing to comply with these guidelines.

Garden Café
Family and friends are invited to dine in the Garden Café on first floor of the hospital. The Coffee Bar is also located in the Garden Café. Open daily.
Monday through Friday
- 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Weekends and Holidays
- 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Vending Machines
- Located in the Garden Café dining area, first floor of the hospital
- Located in the Emergency Department, second floor of the hospital
The hospital has a staff of professional chaplains who are available to give support to patients and families through conversation, processing of difficult experiences or new diagnoses, prayer, and spiritual and emotional support. Chaplains can also assist in notifying your priest, minister, rabbi or faith group leader that you are hospitalized and would like a visit.
The Chapel is located on the second floor, between the main lobby and the Emergency Department. Additional worship services may be offered for you, your family and friends in the Chapel. Chaplains are available for patients and families for supportive visits and pastoral care.
Chaplains are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To request a chaplain, you may ask your nurse to contact the on-call chaplain or call the hospital operator (515) 343-1000.
Our gift shop has a large variety of gifts, flowers, drinks and snacks for patients and employees with free delivery. Shopping is easy and convenient with our online Gift Shop.

- Methodist West Gift & Flower Shop. Open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Guest Accommodations
If you are considering hotel accommodations for your visit, the greater Des Moines area offers a wide range of options. We have arrangements with many local hotels who may be willing to provide special rates for our patients and their family members.

Admission Information
Your Hospital Stay
We consider you a partner in your hospital care. When you are well informed, participate in treatment decisions and communicate openly with your health care team, you help make your care as effective as possible. We strive for every interaction to be a positive one for you and your family.
Concerns, Compliments and Feedback
If you are concerned with any aspect of the care and/or services you receive during your stay at our hospital or if you have ideas for improvement, please bring them to the attention of a hospital team member, or ask for the manager of the unit where you are receiving care. During the evening, early morning and weekend hours, please ask to speak with the charge nurse or supervisor.
If after doing so, you are still not completely satisfied with the level of care you receive, or have concerns after you leave the hospital, please contact our guest relations department at (515) 241-5000, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Safety and Security
Our hospital is staffed 24 hours a day by professionally trained officers who provide protective services, security, safety assurance and compliance, emergency preparedness and parking/traffic control. Hospital staff must ask your name and birthday and check your name band before every medication, test or surgery.
