Breast and Bone Health
For women, and men too, breast and bone health is a major factor in your overall health. St. Luke's Breast and Bone Health is dedicated to providing you with professional, personalized care for all your breast and bone health needs. Our services are provided in a warm and relaxing setting, and are performed by experienced staff committed to making your experience with us as seamless and comfortable as possible.Mammogram Screening
When it comes to breast health, early detection is the best prevention. Women should have regular mammograms beginning at age 40, or sooner if recommended by their healthcare provider.
Getting a mammogram with the SmartCurve™ system is just like a getting a regular Genius Exam™ - only more comfortable! The curved design of the compression device mirrors the shape of a woman's breast to reduce pinching and applies uniform compression over the entire breast for added comfort.
The technologist will view the images of your breast at the computer workstation to ensure quality images have been captured for review. A radiologist will then examine the images and report results to either your physician or directly to you. This technology is only offered at our Westdale Campus. Call (319) 369-8129 to schedule an appointment.
In addition to mammography, St. Luke's also provides more intensive types of screenings for individuals with increased risk of breast cancer. These screenings include:
- Automated breast ultrasound
- Breast core biopsy
- Breast cyst aspiration
- Breast ultrasound
- DXA Bone density scan
- Galactogram/ductogram
- Needle localization
Osteoporosis Prevention and Management
It is estimated the 10 million people in the U.S. (including 8 million women) have osteoporosis. What's more, almost 34 million more are estimated to have low bone mass, placing them at increased risk for osteoporosis and fractures.
Individuals with osteoporosis have a higher risk of fractures of the hip, vertebrae and wrist, among others health factors. At St. Luke's, we believe it's important for women to understand their risk for osteoporosis and what can be done to prevent or slow the process of this disease.
DXA Bone Density Screening is the industry gold standard for bone density testing. It is used to detect osteoporosis and other bone disorders. The information the screening provides helps you and your doctor make effective decisions about preventative steps and treatment options. St. Luke's offers DXA Bone Density Screenings at their office at PCI Medical Pavilion and also at their Marion Campus.
