Daniel Joiner named to Modern Healthcare - Diversity Leaders List

Daniel Joiner, Chief Diversity and Community Impact Officer for UnityPoint Health, has been named a 2024 Diversity Leader by Modern Healthcare.

Modern Healthcare’s Diversity Leaders awards program honors health care executives for their commitment to improving equity and inclusion at their organization and in the overall industry. Joiner is one of 35 healthcare executives nationwide named to this year’s list.

He is being recognized for several initiatives he has led at UnityPoint Health, including:

• Spearheading the development of a Cultural Resource Guide aimed at improving interactions between team members and patients from various backgrounds.
• Acting to align UnityPoint Health’s affinity-based employee networks across the system.
• Helping to strike a partnership with a national bank to boost access to healthcare careers for members of underrepresented groups.
• Establishing a program that increased the number of diverse suppliers with whom UnityPoint Health contracts by 10 percent.

The Modern Healthcare Diversity Leader award is the latest in a series of recognitions Joiner has received this year. He also was named to Becker’s Healthcare “Black Healthcare Leaders to Know” and “Hospital and Health System Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officers to Know” lists.

Joiner was named UnityPoint Health’s first Chief Diversity Officer in 2022 and has been with the organization since 2015.
