Two UnityPoint Health Affiliated Hospitals Again Earn CMS 5-Star Rating
Aug 12, 2024Two UnityPoint Health affiliated hospitals have once again earned the prestigious five-star designation from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings for 2024.
UnityPoint Health – Meriter Hospital and UnityPoint Health – Finley Hospital both earned five-star designations this rating period, which is the top rating from CMS. Only 381 hospitals nationwide received a five-star rating in 2024, which is 102 fewer hospitals than the previous year.
For Meriter, 2024 marks the ninth consecutive year the hospital has received a five-star rating.
“We are deeply honored to receive this five-star rating,” said Sara Zerbel, director of performance improvement at Meriter. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team. Our focus remains on delivering the highest quality care to our patients, and this rating reflects our commitment to that mission.”
This is the fourth year in a row Finley has received a five-star rating.
“The rating is attributed to our highly-skilled teams that deliver compassionate and exceptional care to our patients at Finley Hospital,” said Jennifer Havens, UnityPoint Health – Dubuque President. “With this rating, Finley Hospital continues to be positioned as a high-quality and trusted place to receive healthcare within the Tri-State area.”
A CMS five-star rating signifies that the hospital has met rigorous standards of care across various quality metrics, including patient satisfaction, safety and clinical outcomes.
The hospital rating system is designed to help consumers make informed decisions about their healthcare options by providing a transparent evaluation of hospital performance. The hospital rating is based on data measuring five aspects of quality of care including mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, and timely and effective care, as reported by CMS’ Care Compare tool.
