Certification Review Course for NCC Exam

Why certify?

Certification establishes a nurse’s competency and knowledge in a specialty field. This is an opportunity to be recognized for your expertise! To qualify to take the exam, you must have a minimum of 24 months experience or 2000 hours in your specialty field.

Literature supports that nurses who are certified respond more quickly in emergencies, detect complications more quickly and initiate early interventions, communicate more effectively, have fewer errors in patient care, have higher patient satisfaction scores, and have lower rates of patient death (Straka et al., Journal of Pediatric Nursing, 2014; Martin, Arenas-Montoya, & Barnett, Journal of Continuing Education, 2015).

Preparing for the test

We recommend the following combination to help you prepare for taking the test:

1.    Buy or borrow these (or similar) books to use as references and for self-study

·       Certification and Core Review for Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing (question/answer book)

·       Core Curriculum for Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing (reference book)

2.    Complete the library of online asynchronous modules available to you!

Note: In preparation for taking the High-Risk Neonate NCC exam, we recommend taking the STABLE Cardiac Module class and purchasing Core Curriculum for Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing, 5th Edition (AWHONN): https://events.blackthorn.io/en/4P1dQRr7/g/v9QgShjEjK/stable-cardiac-online-on-demand-class-5a2j6f3eoQY/overview .

After purchasing this course, please email msn_perinataleducation@unitypoint.org to obtain the course modules link.
