Spinal Cord Injury Peer Support Conference

Individuals with spinal cord injuries, peer support persons, family members and clinicians are invited to share experiences and feedback.

Individuals with spinal cord injuries, peer support persons, family members and clinicians are invited to share experiences and feedback regarding existing and needed peer support and community resources for people living with spinal cord injuries in Iowa.

Featured Speakers:

Josh Turek, Keynote Speaker

Josh was born with spina bifida and has been a wheelchair user and an advocate of adaptive sports for the disability community since childhood. After a successful college basketball career, Turek proudly represented the United States at four Paralympics and is a three-time medalist. He currently serves as a member of the Iowa House of Representatives from the 20th district, where he champions inclusivity and accessibility for all.


John Teske

John's life changed dramatically when a farming accident left him paralyzed. Battling the aftermath of a spinal cord injury while battling cancer, Teske faced the challenge of regaining mobility. Within months, he defied the odds and returned to coaching volleyball at South Hardin High School. Today, John continues to inspire others with his story of courage and perseverance.
