Join UnityPoint Health – AbbeHealth Services for our Behavioral Health Conference, where thought leaders and clinical experts will come together to discuss a wide range of topics including first episode psychosis, crisis management, substance use disorders, whole health approaches and advancements in the treatment of depression. This event offers continuing education credits (CEUs) across various fields, including CME, Behavioral Health, Nursing, Peer Support, Social Work, and Substance Use Disorder Counseling, ensuring professionals from all disciplines can benefit from the insights and strategies shared.

Event Sessions:


Treating First Episode Psychosis in Adolescents and Adults (60 mins)

Speakers: Bailey Zaruba, ARNP, Liz Breen, LISW, and Sara Milling, LMHC

Objectives:

1.      Brief overview of NAVIGATE model.

2.      Identify evidenced based medication and medication practices.

3.      Understand the shared learning model for individual and family therapy.

4.      Appreciate the importance of employment, education, and community inclusion in recover from psychosis.

5.      How to access specialty care for people w First Episode Psychosis in Iowa.


Innovations in Crisis Services (60 mins)

Speakers: Jackie Smith Duggan, LMSW, Kara Magnison, LISW

Objectives:

1.      Identify tools for determining risk in outpatient settings.

2.      Identify tools for mitigating risk (crisis plans) in outpatient settings.

3.      Learn about the spectrum of crisis services offered in Iowa.

4.      How to connect clients with Access Centers in Eastern Iowa.


Person Centered Substance Use Disorder Treatment for Youth and Adults (90 mins)

Speakers: Dr. Chantal Rozmus, DO, Tracy Carstensen, CADC, George Walker, Peer Support Specialist

Objectives:

1.      Understand the DMS criteria for substance use disorders.

2.      Use of ASAM to make person centered, recovery-oriented recommendation.

3.      Creation of person-centered treatment plan including abstinence, moderation, and/or harm reduction interventions based on client’s choice.

4.      Understand benefits of Medications for Addiction Treatment.

5.      How to access person centered behavioral health care in Eastern Iowa.


Whole Health Approach to Behavioral Health Care (75 mins)

Speakers: Dr. Kate Jarvis, MD, Chelsea DeLarm, LISW

Objectives:

1.      Learn the benefits of incorporating interventions that address physical health concerns into therapy and psychiatry services.

2.      Identify interventions specific to physical health conditions that can be delivered with the scope of practice of therapy assessment and treatment.

3.      Identify interventions specific to physical health conditions that can be delivered with the scope of practice of psychiatry assessment and treatment.

4.      How to access primary care in behavioral health settings and/or behavioral health care in primary health settings in Eastern Iowa.


Innovations in Treatment of Depression: Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and Spravoto (90 mins)

Speakers: Diane Brecht, RN, MSN

Objectives:

1.      Identify the target population for TMS as a treatment for depression.

2.      Learn the risks and benefits of TMS.

3.      Identify the target population for Spravato as a treatment for depression.

4.      Learn the risks and benefits of Spravato.

5.      How to access TMS and Spravato services in Eastern Iowa.
