The Advanced Fetal Monitoring course expands on the knowledge and physiological principles presented in the AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course. This course uses a case study approach to focus on the analysis of maternal-fetal physiology related to complex clinical information and fetal heart rate tracings. The course emphasizes the physiology of fetal-maternal oxygenation, the interpretation of tracings, the selection of clinical interventions, and perinatal risk-management principles.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe the physiologic principles of maternal and fetal oxygen transfer as they apply to principles of fetal heart monitoring
  • Appraise the fetal response to maternal pathological and physiological adaptations during the labor process
  • Analyze complex case studies and tracings using standardized terminology
  • Apply perinatal risk management principles, communication techniques, and documentation strategies to complex and challenging patient care scenarios

Nursing Contact Hours/CME Credit: 7 nursing contact hours/7 CME credit available (0.75 hours may be used towards pharmacology hours).

Nursing contact hours/CME credit will be awarded after the online evaluation is completed and is required to receive nursing contact hours/CME credit for the course. Eight-hour day includes breaks and lunch breaks.
