The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses is accredited with distinction as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Participants must attend 100% of the course, successfully pass the skill stations and online knowledge test, and must complete and submit an online feedback form. All feedback must be completed within 30 days of participating in the course. Participants will have access to complete the online learning prerequisite starting 30 days before the in-person course date. Access ends one day before the in-person course. If the online learning prerequisite is not successfully completed one day before the in-person course, participant is denied entry to the online prerequisite course. Also, participants not successfully completing the online prerequisite will not be allowed entry to the in-person course.
Purpose: The purpose of the IEC is to prepare instructors for the Fetal Heart Monitoring Principles and Practices (FHMPP) workshops
Objectives:
1. Apply adult learning/teaching principles to the Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course
2. Demonstrate entry level proficiency in teaching selected segments of Intermediate Course (lecture & skill stations)
3. Manage classroom issues & formulate problem-solving techniques
4. Identify administrative responsibilities, policies & procedures of the Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course
5. Demonstrate navigation of AWHONN website for administrative functions

To be eligible to participate in the Intermediate Instructor Workshop, the candidate must:
a. Complete the AWHONN Verification Form for Instructor Candidate Qualifications, the Instructor Responsibilities Form for the Fetal Heart Monitoring Program, and the Biographical Data Form.
b. Document active licensure as a registered nurse or physician.
c. Maintain current AWHONN full membership.
d. Document a minimum of two years of recent experience in intrapartum fetal monitoring.
e. Document current clinical involvement in intrapartum fetal heart monitoring (FHM) as a staff nurse, physician, manager, clinical nurse specialist, advanced practice registered nurse, certified midwife (registered midwife in Canada) or educator with inclusion of responsibilities for direct assessment of intrapartum EFM clinical skills of others.
f. Maintain professional development in intrapartum, antepartum, high-risk care and FHM through attendance at relevant continuing education activities.
g. Submit evidence of successful completion of the current edition Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course within 3 years of the Intermediate Instructor Course. The application must include documentation of knowledge validation, course date, and course number of the Intermediate Course.
h. Complete the Conflict of Interest, Licensing Agreement, and Financial Declaration Statements.
i. After successfully completing a teach back, Candidates must be certified by the National Certification Corporation in Inpatient Obstetric Nursing (RNC-OB®) or Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM®) before teaching their first Intermediate Course. Fees/Cancellation/Refund

- The registration fee includes processing fee, and a certificate of attendance. It does not include workshop materials
- We reserve the right to cancel this program due to insufficient registration or inclement weather. If cancellation occurs, we will attempt to reach you. If the weather causes cancellation, announcements will be made on area radio stations. In either event a full refund will be given to you.
- If maximum registration has been reached, your check will be returned in full. You may withdraw your registration if we receive a written request 30 days before the program.
