Ep. 222 - New Clinician Spotlight: Heather Hazelwood, ARNP
Why did you become a physician/provider? I have always wanted to help others. After many years working as a hospital nurse. I realized I wanted to know my patients for longer than a hospital stay, so I decided to become a nurse practitioner and provide care to my patients for years instead of days.
As a provider, what is your medical philosophy? I believe patients are more than their symptoms or disease. Patients are a whole person including the body, mind and soul. Caring for my patients, I approach the patient as a whole person and not just the problem they are describing.
What type of care/clinical interests are you most passionate about? I am passionate about educating my patients. One of my jobs as a nurse practitioner is to teach my patients about their health and not just prescribe a medication.
Why did you choose your specialty? I choose endocrinology because I have a family history of diabetes and I wanted to support patients with diabetes.
What qualities best describe the care you provide your patients? I want my patient to leave the office feeling like I listened to and cared for them. I want to be remembered as being approachable and trusted.
Being a healthcare provider, what drives/motivates you each day? I am motivated by my desire to help others and to bring a smile to the world. I feel wonderful when I can make my patient smile.
What is the most important thing patients should know about you and your practice? I want every patient to leave my office feeling empowered and encouraged to manage their health after my encouragement.
Personal Interests: I love to spend time with my husband and three kids. I also enjoy knitting, reading and cooking.
