UnityPoint Health - Meriter recognizes the need for a robust, talented, and diverse healthcare workforce that reflects and connects to the community in which we serve. The mission of the Healthcare Scholarship Program is to support and encourage students and volunteers pursuing higher education in healthcare.

With your help, we can continue to support and develop the next generation of healthcare professionals.We offer two healthcare scholarships through UnityPoint Health – Meriter. The goal of these scholarship programs is to support and encourage those in our community who are pursuing higher education in the healthcare field and to encourage workforce development and retention at UnityPoint Health – Meriter.
Your gift will support eager college students, who volunteer their time at UnityPoint Health – Meriter and local high school students all of whom are pursuing a career in the healthcare field-many of whom often face financial barriers to pursuing their dream. Thanks to the generosity of donors, since 1987, over 750 extraordinary students have received scholarships, giving them the strong start, they need to begin their educational journey toward becoming healthcare professionals.

Whether you are a high school senior or a current UnityPoint Health – Meriter Volunteer applying for a scholarship, we want you to be aware of the criteria before you begin to apply.
Scholarships are awarded based on applications that highlight the following criteria:
- Rationale for one’s career goal in direct patient care
- Community involvement, work experience, volunteering, and/or extracurricular participation
- Relevant life experiences
- Honors, awards, and recognition
- Relevant coursework and academic achievement
- Social and personal factors
- Review the Application Requirements in advance.

The application for the 2025 Volunteer Scholarship will open January 2, 2025, at 8:00 am and close at noon on January 31, 2025, or as soon as we received 25 complete applications. An incomplete application will result in ineligibility.

The application for the 2025 High School Scholarship will open February 3, 2025, at 8:00 am and close at noon on February 28, 2025, or as soon as we received 50 complete applications. An incomplete application will result in ineligibility.
- Please note both application forms require you to access a Google form. If you find you need a Google account to do so and don’t have one, you may create a Google account for free online.
- Incomplete applications and applications received after the deadline will NOT be considered.
- Decisions are final and at the sole discretion of our Scholarship Committee.
- Applicants will hear of the decisions via email no later than April 18, 2025.
- Check will be handed out at the Scholarship Reception on May 7, 2025.
High School applicants are encouraged to reach out to their high school Guidance Counselor for support.
