UnityPoint Health – Grinnell Opens Behavioral Health Clinic

Jun 17, 2024
Margot Duchowny HeadshotUnityPoint Health® – Grinnell is proud to announce the establishment of a behavioral health telemedicine service located at the new Behavioral Health Clinic on the third floor of the Ahrens Medical Arts Building at 202 4th Avenue in Grinnell, adjacent to Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Margot Duchowny, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC, will join the UnityPoint Health – Grinnell team as a telemedicine provider for patients ages 12 years and older. Duchowny’s mental health services include consultations, counseling and medication management.

“We’ve identified the need for more mental health resources to exist in the communities that we serve,” says Dori Robinson, clinic operations director at UnityPoint Health - Grinnell. “We don’t believe this service is a replacement for any other current mental health offerings in the community or surrounding communities, rather an additional service to fill the need of the patients we serve together.”

Duchowny will provide telemedicine therapy and counseling sessions and psych medication management in the areas of acute and chronic psychiatric conditions, trauma, medical co-morbidities, health diversity issues including LGBTQ+ care, postpartum support, substance use and addiction.

“I believe it’s important to understand the background history of a patient as well as the current risk factors and stressors,” says Duchowny. “That way I can focus on tailored interventions to help each unique patient progress in their treatment.”

Duchowny received her undergraduate degree from the University of Miami and her graduate degree from Florida International University. She is certified as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Duchowny has experience in psychiatric crisis, consultation liaison and outpatient psychiatric interventions.

“I was inspired to become a mental health provider when I worked with people suffering from mental health illness and experiencing homelessness,” says Duchowny. “My care philosophy is to focus on the biopsychosocial contributors of mental health conditions as it relates to each individual patient.”

The UnityPoint Health – Grinnell Behavioral Health Clinic will offer telemedicine appointments in the clinic on Mondays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The first patients will be seen on June 24, 2024. Established UnityPoint Health patients and non-UnityPoint Health patients may schedule an appointment at the clinic. No referral is needed. Appointments can be scheduled by calling (641) 236-2323. Most insurances are accepted. Insurance coverage is a contract between the patient and the insurance company, and benefits vary depending on insurance policies. Patients will present their insurance card(s) at the time of service for appropriate billing to insurance.

Mental health is an important piece of overall well-being. The Behavioral Health Clinic is here to support patients coping with anxiety, addiction, postpartum depression or other mental health conditions. Schedule an appointment for an initial assessment, or talk with a primary care provider.

If someone is experiencing a crisis and thinking about suicide, call 988 to be connected with a National Suicide Lifeline counselor. If the situation requires immediate medical attention, call 911.
