Community Relations

UnityPoint Health - Meriter is proud to be Dane County's community health system. A not-for-profit led by a community Board of Directors, our organization's mission is clear: improve the health of the people and communities we serve. We're driven to meet the needs that are often overlooked through various innovative and community-based programs.

Programs

Adopt-A-School Program

Meriter is proud to be a Madison Public Schools Foundation Adopt-A-School Partner with Madison Memorial High School. Through the program, our organization provides speakers, opportunities for field trips and job exploration, as well as financial and material support. In return, we offer our employees community engagement opportunities, the ability to invest in potential future team members, as well as community support.

Community Giving

Our charitable giving is aligned with the Healthy Dane Collaborative 2019-2021 Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) identified health priorities, which can be viewed here. These priorities include:

  • Maternal and Child Health
  • Substance use Disorders
  • Mental Health/Behavioral Health
  • Chronic Conditions
  • Sponsorship and donation requests can be sent via email.
Community Paramedic Program

The collaborative Community Paramedicine program is an innovative healthcare delivery model that has created a unique partnership between Madison Fire Department paramedics and Meriter emergency department.

Off the Floor and Onto a Bed

We partnered with Steinhafels Furniture to help residents at The Triangle, a low-income public housing complex near the hospital. Many of the residents have ongoing health issues and were recently homeless, sleeping on the floor or air mattresses. Together we are providing beds to residents, allowing them to get a good night's sleep.

Community Health Needs Assessment

UnityPoint Health – Meriter is pleased to be a part of the Healthy Dane Collaborative's Community Health Needs Assessment. As part of health care reform, all not-for-profit hospitals are required to conduct a community health needs assessment on a triennial basis, to determine the health needs of the community.

HEALTH Program

The homeless outreach program at UnityPoint Health – Meriter, Helping Educate and Link the Homeless (HEALTH), helps those facing homelessness or housing insecurity receive care for both acute and chronic health conditions.
