Our vision at UnityPoint Health – Finley Hospital and the Finley Health Foundation is to provide the best outcome, every patient, every time, and includes meeting the emotional and spiritual needs of those we serve.
Spiritual Care has never been more at the forefront of health care than it was throughout 2020 and into 2021, developing into an additional care tool to assist in the healing process. Clinically trained to help navigate the health care experience, chaplains act not only as spiritual counselors, but as advocates for patients and staff.
As an extension of the medical team, Finley Hospital Chaplain, Claudia Dorsch, brought her extensive knowledge and training to Finley Hospital in 2020. As Chaplain, Claudia has provided comfort to countless patients who were unable to be near family throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Claudia's expertise has provided sensitive, supportive spiritual care to patients and their families to become an integral part to the delivery of care. In her work, Claudia has not only advocated for patient's religious and cultural traditions, but she's also served as a spiritual counselor for team members during, potentially, one of the most trying and difficult times of their career.
Dedicated chaplains influence better decisions about care, improve clinical outcomes, and enhance staff morale. The trust they establish with patients transfers to other members of the care team, leading to better care and outcomes.
Finley Hospital has embraced the model of holistic care for our patients, so we can attend to their suffering and observed crisis. We recognize that studies show spiritual commitment tends to enhance recovery from illness and surgery and has long been recognized as an important component of palliative care and hospice work.
The endowment for spiritual care is a commitment not only to ensure there will always be chaplains to provide care, but to also provided financial resources for new learning opportunities to renew and strengthen the skills and knowledge of our caregivers.
Your support of the Spiritual Care Endowment will ensure Finley Hospital's Chaplain has the resources to address a patient and team member's physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, as part of the delivery of compassionate care, today, tomorrow and forever.
